Dubai: The UAE and Uzbek governments celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of the ‘One Million Uzbek Coders’ (OMAC) initiative, launched under the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of government modernisation.
The virtual ceremony was attended by Abdulla Aripov, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs; ministerial and government officials from both countries, a government statement said.

Abdulla Aripov, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan praised the achievements of the strategic partnership launched in 2019, which was extended to cover over 26 sectors.
Aripov commended the efforts of the award winners; calling on them to enhance their participation in designing government services by developing innovative solutions, which will support knowledge-based economy and provide new opportunities for employing creative ideas to develop best services in the country.
Motivate youth towards Creativity and Innovation
Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, in the UAE reiterated the UAE leadership’s keenness to share innovative experiences in government work aiming to develop advanced government models, paving the way for a better future.
He also highlighted that motivating youth towards creativity and innovation; providing them with future tools, while building their capabilities in AI and technology sectors, aim to prepare a new generation of coders and innovators capable of leveraging technology and its applications to keep up with global changes.
He added: “the success of the first edition of “One Million Uzbek Coders” initiative marks another milestone in the strategic partnership. “
He further commended the vast participation in the initiative, which was inspired by the “One Million Arab Coders” initiative, encouraging graduates to actively participate in developing their societies by employing modern technologies, programmes and creative ideas to find innovative solutions to challenges and promote government work in Uzbekistan.
27,000+ participants, prizes worth $100,000
Launched in November 2019, the “One Million Uzbek Coders” initiative was inspired by the “One Million Arab Coders” initiative launched two years ago by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The initiative aims to build youth capabilities to learn the language of the future to enhance their role in serving their societies preparing for the future.
The initiative attracted more than 100,000 applicants; including more than 27,000 participants who completed the training programme.
The top 150 graduates were awarded the “Nanodegree” grants, and the top performing coders were awarded prizes worth up to $100,000.
Upcoming edition
During the ceremony, government officials announced that the upcoming edition of the “One Million Uzbek Coders” initiative will allow students under 14 years old to enrol in the courses.
The initiative, led by the Dubai Future Foundation, aims to promote the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) techniques to promote innovation, initiate positive changes, and adopt programming to create solutions for the various challenges facing our societies.
The strategic partnership between the UAE and the Republic of Uzbekistan includes 26 key pillars overseeing 147 initiatives in government modernisation.
It promotes sharing knowledge, expertise, and successful experience the UAE government developed over the past years, performance assessment and service delivery.
To further strengthening the partnership, joint teams were formed in strategy, performance, innovation, programming, education, economy, global competitiveness and ease of doing business.
